Who We Are
The state chapter of a national organization, Democrats for Education Reform CT advocates for change guided by progressive values. We seek to promote great educational opportunities and achievement for all students by increasing equity, protecting civil rights, and strengthening the social safety net. We are building a political pipeline of Democratic leaders who will improve our education system so that it better serves students and families.

Amy Dowell
Amy Selib Dowell has been the DFER CT Executive Director since 2015. The state chapter of the national affiliate has been a leading partner in resource equity work, overhauling the state funding formula in 2017, as well as advancing a comprehensive literacy bill, "Right to Read," which was passed in 2021.
After nearly two decades of political work, Amy has served on mayoral, gubernatorial, and statewide office campaigns in New York, in Connecticut, and on the National level for two cycles at the DCCC.

Nicki Golos
Nicki became involved in education policy efforts while earning her law degree at the University of Connecticut. Prior to joining DFER CT in September 2018, Nicki was the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Connecticut Council for Education Reform. Nicki is committed to narrowing the state's achievement gap, one of the widest in the nation, so that every child has the opportunity to pursue the American Dream. She currently lives in Woodbridge with her husband, her two children, and her dog.
